Description:
Thai massage requires deep feeling and recognizing the elemental forces within. In this class we help students learnt why Thai massage is an important cultural art form and how to position oneself as a therapist in this tradition. We will cover body mechanics, hand positions, breathing awareness and listening to how the clients respond to therapeutic touch.
Learning Outcomes:
This course helps students to learn proper posture, balance and technique with interacting with a client. We will cover and understand movement and positions on the floor as a therapist, types of hand positions, seated positions and ways to use gravity so we work smarter and not harder as therapists. Another important outcome is the ability to listen deeply to the client, in breathing and in response to the forms of touch applied in the therapeutic method. We will also introduce a proper bedside manner and develop appropriate ways of interact with the client as a therapeutic professional
Description:
This class is designed to help students understand the philosophy of Thai Massage and Shiatsu. They will practice how to work on a floor mat and gain understanding of how to best use leverage and gravity. We will cover sitting techniques, hand positions, and how the therapist’s entire body can be a tool for massage.
Learning Outcomes:
The outcomes that students will achieve by taking this class are oriented towards using the floor as a massage medium. After completing this course, students will show proficiency in the following techniques: using different parts of their body to perform massage, understanding how to use various hand positions, and sitting forms to aid in using the entire body as a massage instrument. They will also have learned some simple Thai massage moves.
Description:
This class is designed to help students use the elemental forces within the body to listen and deeply feel the client. This massage technique can be applied to any bodywork setting, however we will be working in the context of a floor style session. In the class we will be listening to subtle movements in the body and to how the body responds to various movements, traction and compressions.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to listen to each individual client as he or she enables techniques of traction, compression and deep listening. Students will be able to address where stiffness and range of motion issues emerge in the tissue and fascia. I will educate students how to rotate and unwind each arm and leg, along with the cervical vertebrae. Work with compressions will teach students the value of long broad pressure holds on arms, legs and regions of the torso. Students will be able to feel the edge of rotation and use soft listening technique to work smarter and not harder.
Description:
This massage class is designed to help students deepen their understanding of how stretching can support the release of muscle tension and fascial tension. This class will use deep observation to discover variation of range of motion in each side of the body and to stretch the body in ways that open energy channels according to the Chinese 5 element system.
Learning Outcomes:
Students who take this class will understand how and why we stretch clients to support the movement of energy according the Chinese 5 element system. Students will also learn certain muscle and fascia chains that work together and hold tension in groups. They will demonstrate how to open these channels and groups of muscles.
Description:
This massage class is designed to teach students how to help clients who are struggling with trauma, depression and anxiety. By using active listening with an intake, we can reflect back what we hear in their body and voice. We become a tool for mirroring and observing each person. The work practiced in this class is designed to still the mind and to support in managing overwhelming states of physical distress in the client. This massage style uses point pressure and holds of various mind / body acupressure points.
Learning Outcomes:
Students who take this class will be able to perform active listening and hear deeply what the client verbally says and what the body is saying with its expression (body language). Students will demonstrate the ability to use different acupressure points to tonify and relax the body and learn therapeutic holds to support deep rest and relaxation.
